I stripped everything off of the Bianchi Project 1 except for the head set and the bottom bracket, and I scrubbed every part with a brush and reassembled everything. The frame clean up really nicely, but I have a few scratches that I will need to address. I scrubbed every part with a brush and reassembled it. It got some new rim tape, new Schwalbe tubes, and some recycled hybrid tires that I had laying around in the garage. I also swapped the steel bear trap pedals for a similar set of resin bear trap pedals. I am not a big fan of that style of pedals, but it was all I had in the parts bin.
Once everything was back in order, I just had to give it test ride around the neighborhood. I stayed closed to home just in case. I managed to put 10 miles on the bike in just a short time. It's a very fun bike to ride, but I will need to make some adjustments to make it more comfortable. The twist shifters are horrible. I ordered a cheap set of microSHIFT Messo thumb shifters, and I put those on as soon as got them. The bike needs a new saddle and pedals. The mismatched Specialized track saddle is not very comfortable.
Unfortunately, I have not decided how I want to redo the cockpit, which is preventing me from ordering a saddle and pedals. I am torn between keeping the classic vibe or going with a refreshed restomod look with modern style components. This is currently the only flat bar bike that I have in the stable.
Anyways, the bike is cleaned up and safe to ride. I am sure that I will be favoring it in the rotation while I figure out what components get swapped out.
